The Darkes Family from Huddersfield

Wales. Home of Proper Holidays. Phrasebook optional, sense of adventure essential, indifference best left at home. As the Darkes family from Huddersfield found out.

The abiding memory from their last holiday was the pool with the wave machine. VisitWales reckoned they deserve more than that. So they sent them off round Wales. Just them, the open road. And a film crew.

The Darkes' began their journey through Wales at Caernafon Castle. From there it was on to Snowdonia and they managed to climb half way up the highest mountain in England & Wales, Snowdon. They then travelled on to the Italiany-Welsh type coastal village of Portmeirion, the moving on to the island famous for its shells - Shell Island. They then went to gut their own fish dinner at Penmaenpool before driving through the stunning scenery of Mid Wales and the Brecon Beacons National Park to visit Wales' premier indoor & outdoor activity centre for a day full of Action Packed Adventure!

The Darkes certainly enjoyed their last day! They started with a relaxing early morning Horse Ride across the surrounding hills and countryside, taking in the spectacular view of Llangorse Lake in the valley below. All of our rides are enjoyed on over 25 miles of private bridleways within our own land. Riding along public roads is not necessary, therefore giving a real sense of freedom and feel for the open countryside; a great advantage and something that is unique to our riding centre.

After a quick lunch it was time for a fun-filled activity session in our award-winning indoor activity centre. They had a go at most of the activities: Climbing as high as they could on the natural and artificial climbing walls, including 'Dudley' the dragon and 'Phil' the prehistoric dinosaur! Scrambling across the rickety rope bridges, finding their way through the natural rock caving system, conquering their fear of heights on the abseil and flying down the indoor zip line!

To finish the day off the Darkes decided to try the Sky Trek Experience - a new, unique and exciting activity not to be found anywhere else in Europe! Sky Trek is a series of over 14 connected zip lines travelling between trees and freestanding platforms at heights of up to 70ft (21m) as it meanders its way down the mountainside. Great fun and a breathtaking way to take in the panoramic views of Llangorse Lake and the Brecon Beacons!

Unfortunately, the Darkes' didn't have enough time to try everything on offer at Llangorse Multi Activity Centre, including the Multi Level Challenge Course and the wet and muddy Dingle Scramble, but there's always next time!

Over 900 people try the Sky Trek Experience at the University of the Great Outdoors!

Over 900 people came to try out the Sky Trek Experience at the University of the Great Outdoors Festival (UGO) on the 1st & 2nd May 2010! As well as enjoying the thrill of sailing through the air on Sky Trek, visitors had a vast choice of activities to have a go at, all situated within the beautiful grounds of Hampton Court Estate, Herefordshire. As well as Sky Trek, Llangorse Multi Activity Centre also ran Bungee Running and Cargo Net Climbing, both of which are available at the centre.

Soroptimist International fly for charity!

The 'Wales South' region of the Soroptimist International fundraising organisation recently tried the Sky Trek Experience in the name of charity. The 8 members who took the challenge raised a massive £1300 in aid of the prevention of 'Lassa Fever', a disease which is spread by rats and kills over 3,000 people a year in Sierra Leone.

Every member who took part managed to complete the course, and found that sailing through the air across open farmland with beautiful views of the Brecon Beacons and Llangorse Lake is quite relaxing after all!

Duke of Edinburgh Challenge 2009 Finale

The final challenge of the Duke of Edinburgh's Awards' Challenge 2009 was held at the Dingle Scramble Course at Llangorse Multi Activity Centre. Competitors had to complete the wet and muddy uphill climb, and return to the beginning in a target time of 15 minutes! Also competing were the presenter's of ITV Wales News.

Welsh Climbing Championships – Round 1

Llangorse Multi Activity Centre recently hosted Round 1 of the new 'Welsh Climbing Championships'. Over 70 climbers of all ages came from across Wales and beyond to compete in the competition, hoping to get off to a good start in the championship. The scoring system means that every hold on every route is worth points - the higher you climb, the more points you score - therefore encouraging everyone (especially the younger climbers) to do the best they can.

Well done to Morgan Preece from the Llangorse Team, who came 1st in the 14 - 16 years age group.

Abseil at St. Mary’s Church, Brecon

We recently ran an Abseil down St. Mary's Church Tower in Brecon, raising money for the Firefighters Charity & the Air Ambulance for Wales. The Abseil took place on 29th August 2009, with Firefighters, Air Ambulance Crew and Members of the Public all taking part.

Sky Trek at Hampton Court, Herefordshire

Sky Trek was recently part of the University of the Great Outdoors event at Hampton Court, Herefordshire. Over 900 people enjoyed seeing the landscape of Herefordshire as they sailed through the air! The Sky Trek was opened by 'the Original Stig' (aka Perry McCarthy).
